About Me:
Andy Westerberg is running for Anoka County Commissioner to use his talent and prior experiences to help move our county forward to a better tomorrow. He is fiscally and morally conservative. He has lived and worked in the county for over 30years as a self-employed insurance agent employing three people. His desire to serve the community has kept him busy in many different venues. From working with charitable organizations like Toys-4-Joy, The American Cancer Society, and SLP LIONS to being a volunteer firefighter. Being a past Director of the Fellowship of Christian Golfers and former President of the North Metro Association of Life Underwriters were two of his favorite growth opportunities. His political experience includes serving as a State Legislator for eight years, a Minnesota Amateur Sports Commissioner, and he currently serves as a Metropolitan Airports Commissioner appointed in 2007. Andy has an AA-Degree from Anoka-Ramsey Community College and a CLU Designation from The American College in Brynmar Pa. Married 34years and has four children and one grandchild.

Important Issues:
Fiscal accountability, making sure we get good value for our tax dollars. We must prioritize the needs for the county and make sure they are adequately funded before considering wants. We must look for ways to limit the size and scope of government such as eliminating duplication of effort when possible. Efforts to improve transportation are critical to the success of our community. County roads and bridges need repair and modifications. Dangerous intersections must be improved to lessen the severity and frequency of incidents. He believes the county must explore mass transit options. His favorite options include buses and car pooling parking lots. Extending bus service on Hwy 65 to East Bethel would provide an option to avoid the hassle associated with our congested peak traffic times. Job training efforts must be focused on jobs of the future. Developing and maintaining a highly skilled workforce will strengthen our county.

Political Philosophy:
His political philosophy is fiscally and morally conservative. His father always said “ Do the right thing because it is the right thing to do”. Whether you get credit for doing so or not, doesn’t matter. People should be individually responsible for themselves. The role of government does not include providing people with a way of life unless they are physically unable to perform and require assistance. Functions of government should be prioritized with emphasis placed on those of greatest importance. Public Safety including emergency services and Public Health should top the list. He thinks it is important to assist in the development of the entire community. Making sure the healthy stay healthy, the weak are strengthened, and those that cannot help themselves, get help. This also includes a responsibility of educating our citizens on issues maintained by or under the county’s influence.
