About me: Jim Kordiak is running for Anoka County Commissioner. He represents the cities of Columbia Heights, Hilltop and Fridley. Jim feels that constituent service is the most rewarding part of his responsibilities. He is a graduate of De La Salle High School and the University of Minnesota in Psychology. Jim spent 14 years as a juvenile probation officer for Anoka County before becoming County Commissioner. Jim has been active in the community through the years and feels he knows the communities well. His constituents reach out to him often and Jim feels in return he offers his support, guidance and direction to all who visit.

Important Issues: A challenging economy has made it difficult to address the many needs of citizens. The demand for county services grow in hard times as residents need financial supports, medical assistance, they have housing needs, desire employment assistance and so much more. At this same time the county feels the same pressure as budgets compress. The county has seen property tax values go down, property foreclosures, abandoned homes, low interest rates and tight money markets. In spite of these pressures Jim feels that Anoka County has continued to offer quality services to customers as all look forward to better times.

Political Philosophy: Jim is certain that Anoka has always been forward thinking as it seeks to improve our communities and points to the recent completion of the Public Safety Center, North Star Rail, the Hi-Speed Broadband Initiative, airport improvements and continued highway upgrades while maintaining a Triple AAA bond rating. While forward thinking efforts may slow the county should position itself for the future. Jim is certain that we must always be looking out for what is best long term for all of Anoka County.
