About Me: James Stuart and his wife, Lisa, have been Anoka County residents for over 20 years and have raised their family in Andover. James brings a unique history of over 25 years of proven leadership in a wide range of public safety and community service arenas. He has been promoted through many different Supervisory roles and been responsible for countless different aspects of the Sheriff's office operations. His responsibilities have included being in Command level positions overseeing Patrol Operations, S.W.A.T. Team, K-9 Unit, Honor Guard Unit, Field Training Operations, Civil Unit, and Administration. James was promoted to the rank of Captain where he assumed responsibility for large scale office organization including budgets, inter-governmental coordination and being the Project Manager for the Sheriff's Office & Regional Forensics Lab building project. This was completed on time and under budget earning him the Anoka County Award of Excellence. James is a Marine Corps Veteran and completed his Degrees in Police Science from Saint Mary's University and Criminal Justice from Inver Hills Community College. James Stuart has a proven track record of effective leadership by example, and believes that honor & integrity are more than just words; that a leader should inspire others to excel.

Important Issues: Constitutional Rights are critical as part of our purpose in providing public safety. James Stuart stands firmly behind our constitution and will fight to ensure the rights of our citizens are always upheld. Service is foremost. James will also guarantee that our service processes are accessible and will be evaluated to verify that we are utilizing the most cost effective and efficient ways of conducting business. It is James' goal to make sure we provide superior services to all residents of Anoka County. James is also a practitioner of collaboration. He has continually demonstrated his belief in teamwork and will strive to work with our communities to develop desired professional programs and improve current systems. In these difficult economic times, fiscal efficiency and effectiveness are also very important. James will continue to demonstrate his commitment to streamlining processes where possible while remaining vigilantly responsible with what is entrusted to him.

Political Philosophy: The role of Sheriff holds many unique characteristics relating to politics. This includes being non-partisan as it needs to be, to assure that justice and services are provided equitably and fairly to all citizens. James has proven fiscal management ability and has shown that he is responsible with what is entrusted to him. His vast experience has shown his commitment to teamwork, fairness and selfless community service. He continually strives to be part of organizations and events that make improvements in our communities. James believes the pursuit of excellence and community involvement is ongoing in each of us and holds numerous professional memberships including being a Board Member of the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council, a Member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, MN Law Enforcement Memorial Association, Rotary International, National Tactical Officer's Association, and Association of MN Emergency Managers.
