The Program

“Autism: Inside and Out” is a program about Autism Spectrum Disorders and the individuals, families and professionals who live and/or work with Autism every day.

Approximately one out of every 100 children today is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. With the high rate of diagnosis, if you don’t know someone with Autism today, it won’t be long until you do.

Having one or more children diagnosed with Autism can be a very frightening and daunting experience, and it is a constant learning curve. We hope that with this program we can offer some useful information to parents as well as to the general public.

Current Episode

In our first program we start with the basics and explain what Autism is, how it’s diagnosed and some of the more frequently used treatments. We went to the University of Minnesota Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic and spoke with Pediatrician Dr. Alison Golnik and Pediatric Neuropsychologist, Dr. Robin Rumsey to learn some of the fundamentals about Autism. The doctors share information on what to do if you have concerns about your child as well as resources for where to start if you are dealing with a new diagnosis.

Also in this episode, Amy Dawson of the Autism Law and Advocacy Center updates us on the 2010 Spring legislative session and efforts toward passing the Autism Healthcare Protection Act and she shares her family’s favorite GFCF recipe: a delicious Beef Stir-Fry.
