The gluten-free and casein-free or GFCF diet is probably one of the most common diets for Autism and throughout this series we are going to share some favorite recipes that are GFCF but many could be adapted to other diets or allergies and intolerances.

Often we get too caught up in feeling like we need to purchase specialized products at the store. Sometimes we just need to take a step back and go to the basics. Today our recipe does just that. Thanks to Amy Dawson for sharing one of her family’s favorite recipes with us: Beef Stir-Fry.


Recipe: Beef Stir Fry

Slice these ingredients to prepare for cooking:

1 pound Top Sirloin
1 red onion
1 green pepper
1 medium tomato or 20 grape tomatoes
1 Serrano or jalapeno pepper
1-4 garlic cloves

Mix and set aside these spices:
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp Berbere spice mix
1 sprig of rosemary
1 tsp olive oil


Heat a 1 tblsp of olive oil in a large fry or saute pan over medium high heat. Add onions and sprinkle with 1 tsp of Berbere spice mix. Add beef and stir fry for 2-3 minutes. Add the spice mix and a sprig of rosemary. Stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add sliced peppers, garlic and tomatoes and cook a few minutes more.

Note: Cooking times may vary, cook beef until well done.

Serve with rice and mango juice.
