If you are looking for 2 hours of laughter in your life then Morning Glory is the movie for you. This movie is laugh out loud funny, its laugh to you cry funny, its use what ever cliché you can think of funny. The trio of McAdams, Diane Keaton, and Harrison Ford work so well together and McAdams in particular brings so much energy to the screen. Ford plays Mike Pomeroy, the deplaced evening news anchor who has no desire to become a part of a morning “entertainment program” and Keaton plays Daybreak’s longtime host Colleen Peck who has no desire to work with the curmudgeon Pomeroy. This dichotomy plays out through the lens of Daybreak and is hilarious to watch.
One aspect from the film that does not fit in with the rest of the story was the forced relationship between Becky and Adam Bennett (Patrick Wilson). The couple find themselves sleeping together after one date that didn’t even go well as Becky left in the middle of the date. It feels like the director and writers forced the relationship into the film to be able to market it as a romantic comedy, when in truth there is nothing very romantic about their relationship.
Despite the scripts flaws in the McAdams/Wilson relationship the rest of the script is right on target. The audience is taken behind the camera and into the television production and while this film doesn’t rival the brilliance of Broadcast News, it stands on its own as a solid adult comedy.
