In Toy Story 3 Andy (John Morris), the toys owner, is preparing to leave home and go to college. He has to decide what to do with his toys which have just been sitting in his toy chest for several years. He decides that he can’t donate them and instead wants to save them in the attic. He packs up all the toys, except for Woody (Tom Hanks) who he decides to take with him to college, and heads up to the attic. He ends up getting side tracked and leaving the toys in a bag on the floor which his mom put out in the trash. The toys narrowly escape the trash pile but end up being donated to a daycare. The daycare, which seems to be toy heaven, quickly turns into a nightmare leading to a daring escape attempt. The toys work together to try and find their way back to Andy before he leaves for college, but with everything seemingly working against them the situation looks dire. Will they escape the daycare, will they reunite with Andy, and will they make the trip to college…you will have to sit down in the theatre and find out.
Toy Story 3 comes to us 15 years after the original film and one had to wonder, could it live up to the high standards of the original and the first sequel. It most certainly does and in someway it even surpasses the first two movies. The story is wonderfully written and executed perfectly. The mix of humor and adventure is perfectly blended and the honest emotion that the characters portray comes across as so genuine. The story is the back bone to this film, while some movies rely on their stars and some rely on effects Toy Story 3 is strongly grounded in a great story.
Disney Pixar once again shows that they are the gold standard in terms of animation. The animation in this film is very impressive and at times feels real. I would have to put Toy Story 3 as the early favorite for Best Animated Film at next year’s Academy Awards.
Toy Story 3 was worth the 11 year wait and will be a movie that I watch with my kids for years to come. Toy Story 3 is a family film in the truest sense, everyone in your family will enjoy this movie. If your 8 or 88 it is time to head to the theater and enjoy Toy Story 3. I give Toy Story 3 4½ out of 5 stars. |
