In TTS: Eclipse Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) continue their relationship and begin to talk about marriage, even though Bella still has feelings for Jacob (Taylor Lautner) who is also in love with her. Also the evil vampire Victoria(Bryce Dallas Howard) is still hunting Bella in hopes of killing her just as Edward killed her love. Victoria is busy building a vampire army that can only be defeated if Edward and Jacob put their differences aside and bring the vampires and the werewolves together all in the name of protecting Bella.
While you can see that these actors know how to work together and play off of one another after having made three films together they still are hampered by subpar acting skills and a terrible story. The script is at times laughable and the acting performances are painful to watch. Taylor Lautner is the worst actor of all and might be the worst actor working today. His overacting has gone to a new level in TTS: Eclipse to the point that you can actually see him trying to overact. Good movies are built on a solid script that is well executed by the actors; TTS: Eclipse has neither of those elements.
The filmmakers know exactly who their audience is and they know that no matter what they do their audience is going to pay money to see these films. They can cash the check before the film ever hits the screen, meaning that they decide not to put much effort into making a good product. They have no desire to engage anyone who is outside of their target audience and I am ok with that. These movies are not made for me and I am not supposed to like them.
After watching all three Twilight films in a 24 hour period I asked myself the question, will I watch the final two films made from the book Breaking Dawn? My answer, probably because I at least want to know how the story will end. However, would I ever spend more than a dollar to see them…never.
I give The Twilight Saga: Eclipse 1½ out of 5 stars. |
