| | | Jack and Jill hit theatres with possibly the least amount of positive hype in Adam Sandler's career. Sadly, the film doesn't even live up to the pitiful amount of hype that it received.
In Jack and Jill Sandler plays both the main characters, Jack Sadelstein and his "identical" twin sister Jill. Jill is the black sheep of the family and only visits her brother, who lives on the other side of the country, once a year on Thanksgiving.
| This year Jill was still dealing with the recent passing of their mother so Jack allows Jill to stay with his family though the holiday season. This leads to disastrous results for both Jack's sanity and his professional life as Jill becomes the target of the romantic pursuits of one of Jack's biggest clients, Al Pacino. Yes, Tony Montana…aka Scarface, is now trying to hook up with Adam Sandler in drag!
Adam Sandler is a funny person who has made me laugh many times over the last 20 years. From his start on Saturday Night Live, to his hilarious movie beginnings with Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. Unfortunately these days Sandler is not making audiences laugh he is making them cringe. Jack and Jill is more inappropriate than funny and made me hope that Sandler either stops making movies or at least watches Happy Gilmore before he takes his next job.
The script was written by Sandler as well as 2 others and it disappoints at every turn. There is no level of anticipation created by the empty script and it leaves audiences wondering what happened to the last 90 minutes. It felt like much of the film was ad-libed and that only works if the actors can work well together and especially if they can play off of each other. With Sandler spending much of the film playing off himself the improv did not work too well.
Jack and Jill is easily one of the worst movies of the year and it should clean up during award season this winter. Memo to the Razzie nominations board: Jack and Jill is all yours! 0 out of 5 Stars. | |
