The candidates for Blaine City Council Ward 3 are:
| Katherine A. Kolb |
About Me: Kathy Kolb is the incumbent City Council member for Blaine’s Third Council District completing her third term. She is married with three children and has lived in Blaine for 21 years. She is an elementary teacher in the St. Francis school district. She is active in Oak Haven Church, teacher organizations, and helps with various charities. She has been an advocate for responsible environmental practices since graduation from college 37 years ago. She has chosen to live and serve in Blaine because she truly loves the city believing that it is a great place to raise a family. She has strong moral values, personal integrity, common sense, and is fiscally responsible. She chose to run for reelection to continue to work on projects her constituents have indicated are important. |

Important Issues: In today’s economy, the single most important issue, that over shadows everything else, is the budget. Blaine is a fiscally conservative city with the task of finding additional ways to reduce spending. Its top priorities are providing services residents value most and being fiscally responsible. This means difficult choices in determining priorities. Although the budget is already lean, Blaine is faced with difficult times that mean more budget reductions that reflect what the residents are also facing in their personal lives. This can be accomplished with experienced leadership. As new development and redevelopment occurs, Blaine must be respectful of property owners’ rights, create new jobs and new tax base, and continue to advocate for environmentally safe practices. Commercial growth must provide livable wages so many residents can live and work in Blaine. City government must be mindful of the impact of growth and the financial ability to provide city services. |

Political Philosophy: Elected officials are responsible to reflect the values of the people they represent or be the voice of the people at each meeting and in making each decision. They need to listen to the people and advocate for them. They must serve with strong personal values, integrity, and honesty. A person should not seek public office for personal gain but with a servant’s attitude. Once elected, they must represent all the people not just a chosen few. Government is meant to provide public services that cannot be provided by individuals or small groups of people like transportation systems, parks, or infrastructure. It should be respectful of individual rights and the responsibility that all government spending is at the cost of the taxpayers.

Endorsements: Kathy Kolb has chosen not to seek endorsements. She believes that the best endorsement is the support of her constituents who have already elected her to three terms. City government is the level of government closest to the people and elected representatives must reflect the values of the people. They should be independent of political parties or organizations.
