Centerville Mayor

There are two candidates in the Centerville mayoral race: Mary Capra and Thomas Wilharber.  To learn more about these candidates, you can watch their debate.

 Mary Capra

About Me:
Mary has been married to Dan for twenty-three years. They have three sons; two attending Century College, one attending Centennial High School. They have lived in Centerville for twenty years.

Experience:
· City of Centerville – Mayor 2005-Present
· City of Centerville – Council member 2001-2004

Presently serving as:
· Centennial Lakes Police Commissioner since 2005
· Fairview Lake Hospital Board of Directors since 2007
· Economic Development Authority since 2007
· I35WE Coalition since 2003
· Rush Line Corridor Task Force since 2007
· Church of St. Genevieve Activities Committee since 2001
· BSA Pack 432 & Troop 232 Committee Member since1997
BSA Merit Badge Counselor “Citizenship in Community, Nation and World, and Communications”.

Mary grew up in local government; her parents raised their children to take an active role in their community. She served on her first state task force at the age of 17 and has continued to serve her community ever since.

Important Issues:
· Mary would work to keep property taxes as low as possible, while making certain we do not jeopardize quality service in police, fire, water/sewer services, and streets and park maintenance.

· Increased involvement of the youth; Mary is currently working with the park and rec. committee to form a Youth Corp to foster community projects for our young adults to become more involved.

· Mary would like to continue to work toward completion of the rest of our long term goals; downtown redevelopment, trail connections and increased education on storm water runoff to clean up the lakes and keep them clean.

Keeping the city finances in check as confirmed by the State of Minnesota Audit in 2009. We worked hard to obtain our AA bond rating with Standard and Poor’s through sound financial management. Mary will work to make certain we keep that standard of excellence

Political Philosophy:

I will …
· Remain a responsible steward of the tax dollars for not only today, but for future taxpayers and councils to · Always remember these are your tax dollars and I have a responsibility to be a good steward of those dollars.
· Hold firm on development that protects the future of our city and doesn’t just solve the problem for today.
· Listen to the vocal minority, while actively seeking out the opinions of the silent majority.
· Serve the citizens with integrity and honor.
