Documentary Workshop
New Session TBA

The Documentary Workshop is designed for students who have already taken our basic classes and are looking for a guiding hand in putting together their first (or even their third, fourth, or fourteenth) projects. Students will work in teams of two to three under the close supervision of our studio manager and instructor Eric Houston to make their own short documentaries.

Courses will include documentary film screenings, discussions of what makes a good documentary, practice interviews, ample editing time, and more. But the classes are only part of the fun in this workshop as you and your teammates will take our cameras and microphones out into the community to create actual documentaries on a topic of your choice. These documentaries will then air on channel 14, be posted to the Internet, and will even be available on professional quality DVDs, complete with bonus features like deleted scenes and audio commentaries.

Documentary topics will be pitched by the students themselves during our second class and will be voted on by the group. Not every student is required to come up with their own ideas, but it is encouraged. Some great ideas for topics include one time events like concerts, fairs, or festivals, fun and eccentric friends or family members, collectors and collections, and even instructional videos, like how to bake a cake or change the oil in your car.
