About Me:
Jeanne Mason is running for Re-election to the Spring Lake Council and feels that she is a dedicated and responsible Councilmember. She is a widow with three children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and has been a resident of Spring Lake Park since 1961. Jeanne has always been a “Nor-easter” - graduated from Edison High School, then attended the University of Minnesota. She worked at Unity Hospital for 30 years and since then has worked part-time for Sister Kenny Rehabilitation out of Mercy Hospital with Adults as well as Kenny Kids.. She also works as an On-Call sub for School District #16. Prior to City Council she served six years on the School District #16 School Board and, is an active board member on a myriad of commissions ; some of which are North Star Development Authority, North Metro TV, and Mpls. Senior Aquatenial Alumni. Jeanne loves to sing in her Church choir and perform with the New Fogey Follies and Palmer Lake Players at Collings School of Fine Arts.

Important Issues:  Jeanne believes that the most important issue in the city at this time is keeping within Budgetary constraints. Budgeting has become has become a very difficult issue with the TOTAL loss of Local Government Aid as well as a significant loss of Homested Credit. It is possible that the city will loss ALL of the Homested credit in 2011. Along with freezing wages in order not to have to lay off any staff , staff has worked very hard in keeping expenditures down, while still providing services that the city’s resident need and expect.

Political Philosophy:  Jeanne believes that being a councilperson is an important and serious responsibility. One must be fair and honest .Sometimes it is a difficult task to appease both residents and the council An open mind is critical in order to decide what the overall good is for everyone, residents as well as the city.
